Introduction to Maintenance Minder System

In 2005 American Honda Motors introduced a new system for its maintenance schedule. Honda, through research and testing found that the motor oil that was being changed on its vehicles at 3,750 miles still had good lubricating properties. Honda used this information to develop its new Maintenance Minder system.

The system is comprised of several different sensors in the vehicle that monitor engine run time, engine coolant temperature, ambient air temperature, and air flow, to evaluate how you drive the vehicle. Using these sensor readings, the Maintenance Minder module calculates how long your oil is good for and gives you a reminder when it’s due to have changed. This system saves you money, by not having oil changed prematurely you’re saving money on maintenance, also this helps the environment. By having your oil changed only when oil has lost most if its peak lubricating properties, you’re not consuming or wasting more oil than what your vehicle needs.

The Maintenance Minder system also uses an Alpha/Numeric code that is triggered by the different sensors in the vehicle to tell when to replace the engine air filter, cabin air filter, transmission fluid and rear differential fluid. These triggers are saved in the Maintenance Minder system and will wait until an “A” or “B” comes due to light the corresponding number.
